| Description:In 1986 the Western Colorado Botanical Garden (WCBG) was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Gardens are located on 15 acres leased from the City of Grand Junction. The first step was clean-up as the site was originally a salvage yard in a run-down neighborhood, long neglected. Twelve local agencies and many volunteers worked long and hard to clear the land. A 4,900 square foot greenhouse/butterfly house, including a gift shop opened on 1997. The greenhouse displays over 600 tropical plant species and the butterfly house many species of North American butterflies. |
