Castles of the XVIIIth century

Slot Zuylen was built around 1520 on medieval remains. In 1752 the Slot was rebuilt into a stately country home on the Vecht. The Zuylen collection offers an overview of three centuries of residence by the Van Tuyll van Serooskerken family: porcelain, glasswork, paintings, furniture and wall tapestries. A number of rooms have been furnished as they were in the time when the well-known writer Belle van Zuylen was living in the Slot.

The moats and the drawbridge which enables to cross them both testify to what the fortified house was like in the Middle Ages : an austere and self-defending house.
From 1755, Pierre-Antoine PASCALIS de LONGPRA, member of the Parliament of Grenoble, had his house razed to the ground and rebuilt in the taste of the XVIII th century. Using the abilities of the bricklayers and carpenters of the village, as well as the talents of the Grenoble cabinetsmakers, among which HACHE, he realized a sumptuous aristocratic residence that the genius ofthe italian painters and decorators coloured. This art is still intact today.

Built in the middle of the XVIIIth century by the Marquis of Chalvet, Seneshal of Toulouse, the castle of Merville is beautiful and sober masonry very representative of the architecture of the area of Toulouse. The Reggia of Caserta includes the Royal Palace and a beautiful park. It presents a unique and powerful piece of architecture, covering a vast area. It consists of a squareshape building (its dimensions are about 250 by 250 meters) divided internally into four sections with two wings each. Each one of them is shaped orthogonally, thus surrounding four courtyards.
At the posterior façade of the palace, the scenic and impressive park begins. It continues for three kilometers, until it reaches a chain of hills. The park also includes a very fine english garden, an area rich in plant life.inquadrate
